2021 Fall Preview: Thayer Volleyball
By Chris Parker
Thayer Volleyball is looking for its first double-digit winning season since 2011.
Junior Naomi Figgins will be Team Leader of the Lady Cats.
“This year she (Figgins) has really worked with all of the new players, but also with her comprehensive attitude and self-confidence about the sport,” said Thayer head coach Jennifer Seibert.
Second setter Danayca Donahue returns to the ground after finishing second on the team with 70 assists last year.
“She (Donahue) knows the game from start to finish. It’s her sport and she loves it, ”said Seibert.

Chasity Wodinowich is a junior back row and outside hitter. The junior had 11 aces, 80 digs, and 117 serve receptions last year.
“Chasity is a hard worker and takes everything you tell her,” said Seibert.
Also returning are twins Natalyn and Kylie Price, who saw newbies to college action last season.
For its sophomore year, Quincy County will see college action this year along with freshman trio Ashley Jackson, Hadley Meyer and Abby Bowers.
“The greatest strength of our team this year will be the attitude, versatility and teamwork. This group seems to take constructive criticism and translate it into its goals, ”said Seibert. “This year our team has to work together on their communication skills. This team is a very young team and they have a lot of skills when their communication gets to the point. “

Seibert also adjusted her practice philosophy after Missouri switched from a best-of-three to a best-of-five set format last year.
“The biggest lesson we learned as a team last year was that we have to add more stamina to every workout in order to maintain endurance. We were good in the first two sets, but in the third set you could see that our stamina had decreased, ”said Seibert. “We have added more conditioning to our exercises and will be doing longer and harder exercises this year. I think the girls who played last year really realized that they really had to work hard with the new format, so this year the girls worked harder and pushed themselves to train harder. “
This year, Thayer will hold a jamboree with koshkonong and couch for the first time. Couch is setting up a volleyball team for the first time this year.
“The overall expectations for the team this year are growth,” said Seibert. “These girls have only been playing volleyball together for a few years, but if these girls stick to volleyball this team will be a great team.”
