2021 Olympics: Stay updates, information, medal rely, schedule as Simone Biles out of all-around, U.S. ladies win 3×3 gold

The men’s gym team final and another series of swimming half-games and finals will be the prime-time prime-time programs on NBC’s Monday night in the United States. Please note that the final of the men’s gymnastics teams has already ended. (No spoilers here: you can scroll down the blog if you want to see the result.) However, the swim will be live and is just the start of a busy night in Tokyo. The women’s gymnastics team final will take place early Tuesday morning along with the softball gold medal game and the final group game for the US women’s national soccer team. Here’s a look at the top US-centric events to watch. You can find more information about other medal events to watch here. All times are east.

Women’s gymnastics

What: team finals

When: Tuesday, 6:45 a.m.

TV: NBC (delayed, Tuesday 8 p.m.) and streaming

Simone Biles and Co. strive for a less than outstanding performance in qualifying for team gold. They took second place there behind the ROC. NBC saves this for Tuesday night prime-time broadcast, so head over to Peacock or NBCOlympics.com if you want to watch it live in the morning. Soft ball

What: USA vs. Japan (Gold Medal Game)

When: Tuesday, 7 a.m.

TV: NBCSN and streaming

The US hope this is their big game of revenge. Japan stunned Americans at the last Olympic softball gold medal game in 2008. Now they are meeting again for the same price. The bronze medal game between Canada and Mexico comes first at midnight on CNBC.

swim

What: men 200m free, women 100m back, men 100m back, women 100m chest finals, plus semifinals,

When: Monday, 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. (semifinals and finals); Tuesday, 7 a.m. – 9 a.m. (preliminary stages)

TV: NBC (evening semifinals and finals), USA (morning heats) and streaming

Katie Ledecky tries in the first runs of the evening to advance to the women’s 200-meter freestyle final. Four finals follow with many hopes for US medals. In the morning, Caeleb Dressel will compete in his signature event, the men’s 100 meter freestyle. You can follow the action on our swim-specific blog.

Women’s soccer

What: USA vs. Australia

When: Tuesday, 4 a.m.

TV: USA and streaming

The women completely turned their tournament around with a 6-1 win over New Zealand in the second group game. Now all they need is a tie against the Aussies to secure a spot in the knockout round. The group’s other final, New Zealand versus Sweden, will take place at the same time. Too early for you The game will re-air in the US at 10 a.m. ET. Women’s basketball

What: USA vs. Nigeria

When: Tuesday, 12:40 p.m.

TV: USA and streaming

The US women are hoping for a better start than the men when they face Nigeria in the Olympics opener. The US women last lost at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona before six of their current players were born. Joe Vardon wrote about the team’s legacy that will last long after Sue Bird and Diana Taurasi leave.

3×3 women’s basketball

What: USA vs. Japan (opening round)

When: Tuesday, 12:30 p.m.

TV: CNBC (delayed, 4 a.m.) and streaming

It’s the last group game for the United States and the Americans have already won the group and a place in the semi-finals. This is just a chance to work on your game before the knockout stage.

Beach volleyball

What: April Ross and Alix Klineman versus Spain; Nick Lucena and Phil Dalhausser against Brazil

When: Monday, 8 p.m. (Ross / Klineman) and Monday, 11 p.m. (Lucena / Dalhausser)

TV: CNBC (women), USA (men) and streaming

A win would put Ross and Klineman in a great position to get out of the pool game. After losing their opening game, Lucena and Dalhausser were on the verge of losing another defeat.

Rugby sevens

What: USA vs. South Africa

When: Monday, 10:30 p.m.

TV: CNBC and streaming

This will be the toughest group game for the United States, but they have made it to the knockout round for the first time in the team’s Olympic history. South Africa offers a good test of the competition you will see there.

Women’s volleyball

What: USA vs. China

When: Monday, 10:05 p.m.

TV: NBC and streaming

The Americans defeated Argentina 3-0 in the opening game. This is the second of five pool games.

Water polo for men

What: USA vs. South Africa

When: Monday, 9 p.m.

TV: CNBC and streaming

The US held Japan off at 15-13 in their opener. Now they face a South African team that lost their first game 21-2 with a chance to start the group 2-0.
