49 Erie County youth sports activities groups have been positioned on pause because of COVID
BUFFALO, NY (WIVB) – As of early February, 49 youth sports teams in Erie County have had 10-day breaks.
These breaks are due to cases of COVID-19 in coaches or players.
According to Dr. Gale Burstein, Erie County’s health commissioner, roughly half of those teams were youth hockey teams. Conditions like dry air and close contact helped, says Dr. Burstein.
Comparing the winter months with other parts of the year, Dr. Burstein that school-related cases of COVID-19 have increased.
