Governor Gavin Newsom recently announced Bonta as a candidate for Attorney General.

“He’s a very progressive Democrat in legislation,” said Rosenhall. “He passed laws banning private prisons, which he worked with the governor on.”

“I think a lot of people understood that in deciding who to choose, Governor Newsom was looking for someone he believed could do in 2022,” White said.
