Alvin Kamara sponsoring NASCAR driver Ryan Vargas

Alvin Kamara, the star of the New Orleans Saints, joins NASCAR as a team sponsor.

Kamara’s Louisiana-based juice bar chain The Big Squeezy will support Ryan Vargas’ JD Motorsports # 6 Chevrolet in Saturday’s Xfinity Series race on the road at Daytona International Speedway.

The four-time NFL Pro Bowl is running back, connecting basketball icon Michael Jordan and musician Pitbull as sports and entertainment personalities to join NASCAR in recent months.

Jordan and Pitbull have both become co-owners for new Cup Series teams – Jordan with 23XI Racing (driver Bubba Wallace), Pitbull with Trackhouse Racing (driver Daniel Suarez).

The Wednesday announcement comes two days after Vargas tried to get a main sponsor on social media.

Kamara began following NASCAR last summer after the sanctions agency decided to ban the Confederate flag in its various locations. He competed in his first race at Homestead-Miami Speedway last June, wearing gear in support of Bubba Wallace.

Kamara was also present at the Daytona 500 last Sunday.

“When this opportunity came up, I knew I couldn’t miss it,” Kamara said in a team release. “I did a little research on Ryan as an individual and JD Motorsports and was impressed with what I read. I look forward to playing a small part in what you already have in front of you.

“In the same breath I’m just as excited about the opportunity The Big Squeezy offers. As we prepare to franchise our new Express concept in 2021, it will allow us to express our passion for serving healthy fresh food and juices across the country! “

Vargas, a 20-year-old from La Mirada, Calif., Finished 18th in the Xfinity season opener last Saturday at the Oval in Daytona.

He’s running for Xfinity Rookie of the Year with JD Motorsports this season, having made nine starts for the team last season.

“Having the opportunity to work with Alvin Kamara and The Big Squeezy is a great honor,” said Vargas, a graduate of NASCAR’s Drive for Diversity development program. “As one of the best running backs in the game, I know Alvin puts 110 percent of his effort into everything he does, and I and our JD Motorsports # 6 team can easily say that.

“I am very excited to be part of Alvin’s first step into the NASCAR industry and I believe this is just the beginning of a long, successful partnership!”
