YOUNGSTOWN – Penguin City Brewing Co. gets a shot of positive energy.

The brewery gets its first tenant, DOPE Cider House & Winery, which will have a 1,000-square-foot manufacturing facility and tasting room adjacent to the warehouse recently purchased by Penguin ‘City at 460 E. Federal St.

Hannah Ferguson of Youngstown, a brewing assistant at Modern Methods Brewery in Warren and the only black female brewer in Ohio, founded the DOPE (Dwelling On Positive Energy) brand in 2017. She will be the head brewer in the cider house.

“This partnership with Hannah is a blast. She told me that she has been trying to find a place in Youngstown to run her own business for over three years, “Penguin City co-owner Aspasia Lyras-Bernacki said in a press release. “When I showed her the room, I knew that she had found her dream place. Our facility is more than Penguin City Beer; We are part of the community and want to show that cooperation and mutual support will build us all and strengthen our city. “

Penguin City will assist Ferguson with branding and distribution of their products throughout the Mahoning Valley, and Ferguson will assist with brewing in Penguin City.

The DOPE Cider House & Winery is due to open in late summer together with Penguin City and will have eight ciders on tap and four types of wine.

“To be honest, it was very emotional for me. I tried unsuccessfully for years to get my business going, and just as I was about to give up the opportunity arose, ”said Ferguson.
