Chicago Cubs and Marquee Sports activities Community crew up for weeklong celebration, Cubs Unconventional, to kick off 2021 season
CHICAGO – The Chicago Cubs and Marquee Sports Network today announced the launch of Cubs UNconventional, a week-long celebration to kick off the 2021 season with exclusive Cubs social media content, special programs on the Marquee Sports Network, interactive experiences, fan giveaways, and more more more. The celebration begins on Sunday, February 21st and continues through Friday, February 26th, with each day focusing on a specific theme.
From “Kids Sunday” on February 21st, fans will be spoiled with a fan favorite, the Kids Only Press Conference, which will be presented by the Advocate Children’s Hospital. There, children of the Advocate Children’s Hospital and Cubs season ticket holders ask questions of current Cubs players and Clark the Boy. Kids Sunday also features other fun moments for kids, such as Clark the Cub virtual autographs, Mystery Bag freebies, and an interactive Snapchat lens.
“Marquee Monday” follows on the occasion of the network’s one year anniversary and begins with a social Q&A (#AskCubs) with Jon “Boog” Sciambi, the new play-by-play announcer for the Cubs. The program for the day also includes a behind-the-scenes tour of the network’s studio and the premiere of a new documentary on the Marquee Sports Network by Cubs Productions entitled “2020: Season at a Distance” presented by Advocate Health Care and the document documents Cubs’ unprecedented 2020 regular season of 60 games.
“Team Tuesday” will delve deeper into the team of 2021 and give fans a glimpse of the current list through Instagram takeovers with players from spring training and the very first Cub-Bee Spelling Bee. “Wrigley Wednesday” is dedicated to the Friendly Confines, where fans have the chance to say their name live from the ballpark by Cubs PA announcer Andrew Belleson, and players will take part in this year’s superlative, The Wrigley Awards, where the players will play Those who are “best dressed” or have “the best bat flip” will be crowned.
Throwback Thursday will pay tribute to the greats of the Cubs while highlighting some of the best Cubs moments, and Fan Friday, celebrating the heartbeat of the Cubs organization – the fans – will close the week with autographs and freebies. Trivia and more.
For the entire week of Cubs UNconventional, fans across Illinois will be able to purchase Cubs Charities 50/50 Raffle tickets online at 10 a.m. CST on Sunday, February 21 through Friday, February 26 at 12 p.m. CST. A winner will be selected at random at the end of Cubs UNconventional Friday, February 26th, at 12:00 PM CST. The winning ticket receives half of the net proceeds from the sale of raffle tickets, while the other half goes to Cubs Charities.
