Cuero has a new queen. The Cuero Chamber of Commerce sponsored the Miss Cuero Scholarship Pageant on May 1st at the Cuero ISD Performing Arts Center. Thanks to the many sponsors and volunteers, they were able to crown the new Miss Cuero Queen in 2021, Elizabeth Gonzales, and her court. The Queen will receive a $ 3,000 scholarship while the first runner-up will receive $ 500 and the second runner-up will receive $ 250 to attend the university, college, or business school where she was accepted after high school graduation has been. Miss Cuero Court will be busy this summer helping with community projects and representing the Chamber and the city in several parades.
The Cuero High School Class 2021 went through the halls for the last time. Congratulations to the graduates and good luck for the future. The Cuero Chamber of Commerce will be celebrating its first Fun After Five in a long year of events and we look forward to The First Look hosted by the Chisholm Trail Heritage Museum on Thursday at 5pm. Guests can see the renovation work in the historic Trautwein building 222 N. Esplanade next to the museum. You will also see the renderings of the completed project. A ribbon will be cut on June 18 in honor of the Chisholm Trail Heritage Museum’s English-German School and the beautiful preservation that has also expanded capacity for the local community. The CTHM Cowboy Camp also begins on this day. This educational program will now be housed in the English-German schoolhouse. Cuero has lots of fun activities planned for the kids throughout the summer. The pool and splash pad opened on June 5th. More information is available at www.cityofcuero.com. The Cuero Public Library organizes “Fabulous Fridays” with Lego Day and Movie Nights. They will also continue their Tail & Tales summer reading program throughout the summer. This year, Cuero Turkeyfest will host its annual spring grill cook-off entitled “Better Late than Never” on Friday together with a Junior Pitmasters of America Kids Cook-off. If washing machines and horseshoes are your game, sign up for the Turkeyfest Washer and Horseshoe tournament, which starts at 1pm on Saturday. On June 19th, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Cuero Rotary Club will host its Turkey Shoot Fundraiser at Cuero Sportsman’s Club, 902 E. Bailey in Cuero. Entry fees are $ 5 per round and $ 10 for cash rounds. All ammunition is provided by the shoot, so bring your own shotgun. Registration starts at 9 a.m. The proceeds will benefit local organizations. Cuero Turkeyfest’s famous turkey Ruby Begonia will host a special day of training on July 24th from 6:00 p.m. Come and enjoy the “Rally with Ruby” while the Turkeyfest racing team picks up their bird of flight for this year’s 49th Bring your chair and enjoy an evening of live entertainment, food trucks and the 5D Travelin ‘Tavern in Cueros Historic Downtown Main Street and the Downtown Market Pavilion.

The farmers’ market in Cuero Downtowns am Main lasts every fourth Saturday of the month until October. Make sure to stop by and buy organically grown products. Other items include eggs, meat, jam, honey, baked goods, plants, wine, artisanal items, and more. The Farmers Market is a program of the City of Cuero Main Street Department and takes place from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in Block 200 on East Main Street, right in front of the Cuero Public Library. Due to the nice rain we received plenty of products and Cuero Main Street has brought a new program called “Farm-to-Table Tuesdays” to the Downtown Market Pavilion. Get fresh products and tasty treats from Tuesday to June from 4 to 6 p.m.
Save the date for the World Series of Cuero. Now is the time to warm up for the 13th annual World Series of Cuero Texas Hold ‘Em event. The event will again take place on August 7th at The Venue on Church Street, with lunch starting at 11:30 am. The 10 best places will be awarded cash prizes. Proceeds from the event will help fund scholarships for Cuero High School graduates and other chamber programs. This year the Casino Night will take place after the tournament.
