Defender Ryan Shawcross indicators with Beckham’s Inter Miami | Sports activities
MIAMI (AP) – Ryan Shawcross signed with David Beckham’s Inter Miami in Major League Soccer on Saturday, the day after he left England club Stoke after 14 years.
Miami said it acquired the center-back with a free transfer pending a successful physical, international transfer certificate and a P-1 US visa.
“Ryan is part of Inter Miami’s DNA because of his club experience and longevity,” Miami sporting director Chris Henderson said in a statement. “He will come here and not only be able to be in the field, but also be a leader.” His leadership will show in the young players and players who get through. He is physically dominant, his feet are good, his passing range is good and we think he will be a great addition to our backline. “
Shawcross has seen limited playtime since breaking a leg during a preseason game against Leicester in July 2019.
The 33-year-old has been the Stoke captain since before the 2009-10 season. He scored 25 goals in 453 games, including 401 games in the Premier League and the second division championship.
He moved to Stoke from Manchester United in 2007, where he was limited to two league cup games after loaning Belgian Royal Antwerp for the second half of the 2006/07 season. His move to Stoke became final the following January.
He played four games with Stoke against Everton’s Phil Neville, now Miami’s coach.
