MINOT, ND – Minot City Council approved a motion to renew the professional services contract with the Minot Area Chamber’s EDC on Monday, but not before a debate on the matter.
The agreement will allow economic development services to continue until the rest of 2021.
As part of this, the city will contribute $ 328,500, and a quarter has already been booked and paid to the organization.
The approval was passed with an amendment that included the addition of 11 strategic initiatives to the contract.
However, some councilors, including Alderwoman Carrie Evans, felt that the treaty needed to provide clearer goals and outlines for how the money should be used.
“I think there is probably a very good list of specific measurable results. They are not here and so I am very concerned about voting and approving these expenses without them, ”said Evans.
Jonn Knecht of the organization said the newly merged Minot Area Chamber of Commerce and Development recently approved its initiatives for the year, some of which may be longer.
“In our infancy we will reach a point of greater strategic planning, but we have to do this, but we have adopted 11 strategic initiatives that our board and our organization are working on,” said Knecht.
The approval was passed 5 to 2, with Evans and Alderman Paul Pitner voting against it.
