According to the LA Police Department, a man was killed when the suspect opened fire on a group of people near Fickett Market in the Boyle Heights neighborhood. The Los Angeles Fire Department said the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials said a 27-year-old woman and a 25-year-old man were also seriously injured in the attack and are in critical condition at a local hospital.
A police spokesman said the alleged gunman fled the scene on foot and is still at large.
Witnesses said the shooting took place at a liquor store in the North Fickett Street market.
One local resident tweeted, “This is a block from my house and I go to this market regularly.
“I watched the whole reaction from the police, but I didn’t know it actually took place in the market. It’s so terrible.”
Another resident speculated that the shooting could be linked to a house party in the neighborhood.
A major manhunt is currently underway to find the shooter in Boyle Heights.
There were no reports of other injuries at the site of the attack and no further details were released by the LAPD.
Boyle Heights is east of the Los Angeles River.
