Lycoming seems to be to re-establish itself after missed 2020 season | Information, Sports activities, Jobs

After just one Spring Exhibition game in 2020 – a 31-7 win over Misericordia – Lycoming football is ready for a full season again.

46 first year athletes registered for the first training session on August 12th. Ten defensive linemen, nine offensive linemen and a tight end in this year’s recruitment class will bring 20 new players to the trenches for the Warriors.

Tydre Holland-Alli, Jake Welch, and Lee Springman underline this list of awards and accolades coming from high school.

Without a first year of development in college ball, the 2021 campaign will be a big one for a large class of 32 sophomore students.

“The biggest problem is that we have a year off. Nobody knows how good our second graders are technically because they haven’t really played. “ Lycoming trainer Mike Clark said. “Then you have some new people too, so this is a really unique situation. I think everyone focused on themselves last year and really improved, but until you start playing against others, you aren’t really sure what you really have or how good you really are because it’s hard to find you Compare with a year and a half between games. “

The first regular game of the season for a very young team is just around the corner. The Warriors will head to Selinsgrove this afternoon at 1pm to open their season in Susquehanna.

It will be the first real gaming experience for many.

“The freshmen and sophomores have never played a real game other than the scrimmage against Misericordia.” Warriors quarterback and Jersey Shore native Elijah Shemory said. “They don’t really know what it is like, what our culture is and what happens on game day.”

Shemory, a Redshirt junior and Jersey Shore graduate, was the signal caller for a Lycoming offensive that has remained strong lately. Before the season was canceled last year, the Warriors ended their 2019 season on a 3-1 run in which Lycoming scored over 40 points for three weeks.

The stalemate in development and progress that the pandemic has caused for college athletics has left the Warriors in a position to hit the reset button.

“We want to try to rebuild. We have a really proud history and tradition here and the last few years have not exactly lived up to that. “ said Clark. “I like the way we’ve played the last five games… (but) you could say things are important or not important. It’s difficult, we want to build on what we’ve achieved over the past year and a half in terms of improvement and recruitment, physical development and all these things, but we want to win more games than lose again. This will be a great test and a great opportunity for us against a good team to find out what we are doing and how good we can possibly be. “

Lycoming ranked fifth in the Middle Atlantic Conference coach poll last season. Delaware Valley ranks # 1 after winning its third consecutive conference title in 2019. The Aggies will be arriving at Williamsport on October 2nd at 1pm.

For the 20 seniors of this year’s squad, nothing is taken for granted after all this time away from the grid.

“I think that last fall I couldn’t play until spring somehow revived my love for football.” said Shemory. “I missed it, we all missed it. We only had classes and wanted to practice minimal things, nothing crazy, without playing every weekend. I have the feeling that as a team we are more enthusiastic this year. “
