Marion flower store seeing regular Valentine’s Day enterprise regardless of chilly climate and pandemic
MARION, Iowa (KCRG) – The low freezing temperatures don’t prevent florists from delivering flowers for Valentine’s Day.
Roots in Bloom in downtown Marion has been preparing for a rush of customers for weeks.
Despite the pandemic and freezing weather slowing traffic for the big holidays, the store said it saw consistent orders for delivery and pick-up all weekend.
The owner said these temperatures are dangerous for flowers and that they take extra care to protect any arrangement from the wind.
“It’s double-wrapped so we have extra protection for the flowers,” said Cassie Hammarmeister, designer and owner of Roots in Bloom. “And they go straight to the van from where we finished our orders. Or drive to the person’s vehicle. So it’s a lot of education with people from, we’re freezing cold, just imagine what those warm climates flowers think. ”
Although Sundays are usually slower days for flower shops, Roots in Bloom are happy with the traffic so far.
