– Former Cardinal Corey Ray made his major league debut for the Milwaukee Brewers this weekend. In Louisville, 18 former players have made The Show since 2014. That’s most of any program in the country.

– Sign New U from L QB Khalib Johnson speaks to Rivals’ Dave Lackford about why he picked the cards.

“Louisville is actually my dream school! I grew up a basketball and soccer fan in Louisville since I was 8 years old! Not to mention my uncle Broderick Clark was wide receiver there, ”said Johnson.

Over the past three months, the relationship between him, quarterbacks coach Pete Thomas, and the rest of the staff has strengthened to the extent that they were comfortable telling him he was their future quarterback.

“Coach Pete Thomas and I have built a great relationship since I started my recruiting process. I love his passion for the game and the fact that he is a family oriented guy. I also love the tradition of the program. I feel like I can be successful on the offensive that suits me well. I want to be the next big QB to come out of Louisville. Overall, the people and the tradition of this program had a big influence on my decision, ”said Johnson.

Broderick Clark’s nephew? I love it.

– The Cardinal Authority’s latest podcast focuses on Johnson’s engagement.

– If you ever wondered if Kentucky fans would publicly burn couches after winning a national volleyball title, this weekend you gave your answer.

– Tori Kelly will sing the national anthem at the Kentucky Derby this year. I don’t know who that is, but I also don’t know 65 percent of the people who make popular music these days because I’m as old as shit.

– Louisville remains in 7th place in the D1 baseball top 25 for this week.

– Oaks by position, with a favorable tie for Malathaat, the favorites by time.

—Hoops Insight takes a deep dive into three of the players Louisville could use to replace Carlik Jones.

While over 1,400 players have entered the transfer portal, there aren’t many players who stand a high chance of stepping in as the lead playmaker for a team with drafts to compete for an ACC title. Among the best uncommitted players are many wings and combo guards, but not many truly outstanding playmakers. One of the top players on the portal is Marcus Carr from Minnesota; He’s definitely a seasoned playmaker, but he’s testing the NBA Draft and doesn’t seem to be looking at Louisville as his next target.

I would characterize Louisville’s need as follows:

– Protection with experience as a leading ball handler, playmaker and potential goalscorer

-Strong outdoor shots not necessary, but a plus

– Must be able to penetrate the defense

– Needs a solid support-to-revenue ratio

-Necessary to project to be a leader in ACC

– It is preferable to have several years of entitlement (so that we don’t have to do this again next season).

Among the options on the portal, I want to focus on three that I think might fit the bill: Devante Jones of Coastal Carolina, Ahmed Ali of Portland, and Sahvir Wheeler of Georgia.

– It’s that time again. If you have a fun story about getting home from the derby or getting lost in the derby, I want to hear it.

LOUISVILLE: MALIK CUNNINGHAM

247Sport ‘Take: Malik Cunningham has flashed in a few places over the past three years as Louisville quarterback, but next level advancement is needed if the Cardinals are to move together toward ACC competition. The 6-foot-1,200 pounder was a 64% passer (195 of 304) with 2,617 yards and 20 touchdowns to 12 interceptions in 11 games in 2020. Last year, Cunningham had a 63% completion rate (112 of 179) ) when throwing for 2,065 yards and 22 touchdowns to five interceptions. As a runner, Cunningham was electric, holding 332 times for 1,588 yards (4.8 average) and 18 touchdowns in 33 games from 2018 to 2018.

“It’s something I woke up every day and said to myself, ‘I can’t turn the ball,'” Cunningham said on February 23. This is how sales come about. But just don’t force anything and just trust my O-line and the recipients that they will be where I need them. And my job of delivering the ball, and that’s what I’ve done so far. “

– TuTu Atwell has made some comparisons with Raven’s WR Hollywood Brown.

– U of L-catcher Henry Davis has been specially jailed lately.

– Great!

– The U of L men’s golf team finished ninth in the ACC championships.
