Montana Legislature fails to override eight vetoes | 406 Politics

Since the bills were so widely adopted, the veto polls were automatically sent to the legislature. The bills vetoed were Bills 158, 277, 397, 522, 688, and 691, and Senate Bills 231 and 306.

In order to lift the vetoes, the elections would have required the support of two-thirds of the members of each chamber.

One of the vetoed bills, SB 306 by Senator Mike Lang, R-Malta, would have expanded the Montana Fish and Wildlife Commission from five to seven members and required three commissioners to be agricultural landowners.

The concept of expanding the commission received support during the legislature, but SB 306 raised some concerns because of the landowner component.
