Pedestrian killed by car in downtown Tampa, police say

TAMPA – A pedestrian was hit and killed by a vehicle in the city center on Saturday evening, police said.

The crash occurred at around 5:51 p.m. at the intersection of N Ashley Drive and E Whiting Street near the Tampa Riverwalk and downtown Wells Fargo building, according to Tampa Police Department.

The pedestrian was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. The police did not say what type of vehicle hit the pedestrian.

The intersection was shut down for several hours on Saturday as investigators investigated the crash site. Motorists should avoid this area.

The Tampa Police Department did not provide any further details about the crash, including the names of those involved. The investigation continues, the police say.
