Righetti, Pioneer Valley sports activities groups to quarantine as a result of COVID-19 outbreak

SANTA MARIA, California – Santa Barbara County Public Health quarantined two sports teams in the Santa Maria Joint Union High School District because of a COVID-19 outbreak on Wednesday.

On Wednesday, County Public Health directed the Santa Maria Joint Union High School District to quarantine Pioneer Valley High School’s Vioneity Football Team and Righetti High School’s Varsity Water Polo Team for girls due to positive COVID-19 tests.

The ordered quarantine leads to the cancellation of a soccer game on Friday evening and a water polo game on Saturday.

According to County Public Health, the district is required to conduct weekly COVID-19 tests for soccer and water polo, as the sport is classified as particularly sociable.
