Ruth E. Berguson’s earthly journey of Arnot, Pennsylvania ended at UPMC Wellsboro on September 1, 2021 when she traveled to her heavenly home. There she was greeted by her beloved husband, Harold C. Berguson, who died before her in 1987. At 94, Ruth was the oldest resident of her esteemed parish, Arnot.

Ruth was born on February 20, 1927, to William Curtis Vaughn and Esther Jones Vaughn, and was born to their father in the family home in Cherry Flats, Pennsylvania. Grew up in depression “Ruthie” learned the importance of hard work and contributed to the family income through various jobs, after which she met her husband.

Harold and Ruth were married on October 20, 1946 and shared 40 years of marriage before Harold’s death. As a wife and mother, she was very attached to her family and made many sacrifices for her children.

Ruth was an active member of the Lutheran Church of Gethsemane, the Swedish Arnot Cemetery Association, the electoral board and many non-profit organizations. As an avid sports fan, Ruth loved the Yankees, bowling and polka and square dancing. She was a medalist at the Seniors Olympic Games in Shippensburg. Quilting, sewing and handicrafts were among her many talents.

Ruth leaves behind her five children Edith Sindlinger from Stayton, Oregon, Kathleen Callahan from Wellsboro, Harold A. Berguson (Linda) from Arnot, Vicki Johnson (Ronald) from Germantown, Md., And Laurie Hafer (Duane) from Sayre; 17 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson; a sister, Mildred Scaife; a sister-in-law, Sandra Berguson; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends can call the Pepper Funeral Home, Granger St. 314, Blossburg, on Saturday, September 25, 2021, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., followed by a memorial service.
