St. Martinville asks residents to preserve water

The City of St. Martinville urges all water customers to conserve as much water as possible.

Residents are asked to take the following steps over the next 24 hours to relieve the demand pressure on the water system in cold weather.

  • Turn off all running taps to prevent pipes from freezing.
  • If you break pipes, turn off the water supply until they are repaired. If you can isolate the leak by turning off a valve, do so. If not, shut off the water supply at the shut-off valve on the customer side of the water meter. If your home doesn’t have a shut-off valve, call Public Works at 337-394-2237 and a technician will be dispatched to shut it off at the meter.
  • Do not use your dishwasher or washing machine.

These measures are necessary so that the pumps in the water system can catch up and replenish the city’s water storage towers. “
