Raleigh, NC – With just over three weeks to go into the new budget year, top lawmakers announced on Tuesday that they had agreed on the ceiling for the next state budget.
Legislators expect to spend $ 25.7 billion, but much remains to be done to determine how that money will be spent. A few things are already certain, however, such as the budget won’t expand Medicaid or includes plans for a massive loan proposal for school construction and other infrastructure upgrades – two priorities for Governor Roy Cooper – and includes tax cuts that the Senate has already passed .
Also on Tuesday, a Senate committee passed law making it a crime to fake someone online, while a House committee passed two bills that would help increase health workers in nursing and home care settings.
