BLOUNTVILLE – What to do with the employment contract of Gene Cossey, Executive Director of Tri-Cities Airport, was discussed by the airport’s Executive Committee on Thursday.
The main problem seems to be: how should his job performance be rated?
Cossey is the CEO of the Tri-Cities Airport Authority and has a base salary of $ 180,000, which was set when he was hired in February 2019.
The airport’s bylaws require an annual review by the Executive Director, but that did not happen.

Todd Hensley, chairman of the airport authority, said a document is being prepared to evaluate Cossey, which could include measures such as cash flow and employee retention.
Cossey’s approval
Under the agreement, Cossey will receive an automatic allowance of $ 800 per month, 120 hours of vacation, 80 hours of vacation for executives and $ 10,000 for transition / relocation expenses.
The agreement allows the airport authority’s board of directors to terminate it for “reason” or for no reason.
Requirements for the position
The education and qualification requirements for the position require a BS degree in business or aviation management. at least 10 years of experience in the management of a certified airline company airport; to be an accredited member of the American Association of Airport Executives; thorough knowledge of federal regulations and legal requirements; and competence in government relations.
