Aislin Malcolm (2) from Charters Valley will play against Marina Grado (23) from Gateway on January 18th.

Have you ever thought about being a WPIAL promoter where you could get this team to face that team in a dream matchup?

That dream will come true on Friday when Defending Class 6A Basketball Champion North Allegheny competes with two-time 5A Defending Champion Chartiers Valley.

The Colts are one of three-pits favorites as they rank first in Section 1-5A alone with an 8-0 mark and an overall record of 13-1.

Tim McConnell’s team made history earlier this season by breaking the record for the winning streak in WPIAL and PIAA girls’ basketball with 64 straight. The series was filmed by Trinity on January 23rd and has since won six consecutive wins.

North Allegheny has also built a nice winning streak. The Tigers are number 1 in the district and state in 6A with a 12-0 record.

The Tigers have now won 25 straight games dating back to last season. The last time NA lost was against Maryland’s Elizabeth Seton (46-40) in January 2020.

Now these two basketball forces will collide in Chartiers Valley on Friday at 7 p.m. You can see the game here on HSSN.

Colts vs. ‘Canes

At the first meeting of the year, Chartiers Valley No. 1 took place on January 19th, where New Castle No. 2 was fought in a battle of undefeated teams.

The red hurricane dominated and drove to a 73-45 road win over the Colts.

Now the rematch takes place on Friday in New Castle with roles reversed. Both teams lost and it was the Canes in 1st place and the Colts in 2nd place.

Chartiers Valley have won seven straight wins since that loss, while New Castle beat South Fayette on Tuesday by 22 points after losing to Belle Vernon for the first time at 62:56 last Saturday.

Junior Sheldon Cox had 15 points to lead the Red Hurricane in the first encounter, while NC defense made a big part of the win, limiting Colt’s senior Brayden Reynolds to just 19 points, most of which came late when the canes cruised to victory.

You can watch the game on HSSN at 7:30 p.m.

big opening

In Peters Township (3-1, 4-6), Canon-McMillan (0-6, 0-9) will be guest in a basketball game for boys in section 2-6A on Friday.

If the matchup isn’t fascinating, this is the place. The game is played in the state-of-the-art facility of the new Peters Township High School.

While the upcoming semi-finals basketball playoffs will provide a home advantage for the higher seeds, there is talk that the new facility in Peters could be one of the high school locations that hosts some district championship games.

You can check out the new facility as the game is streamed via video on HSSN.
